Focus reading

What focus reading is

Focus's primary mode presents one word at a time in a fixed spot, so your eyes hold still and the text comes to you. The technique is called rapid serial visual presentation.

Two is an optional short-pair mode. The pair is centred around the same fixation guide to give a little more context; if a particular pair is too wide for the reading area, that step falls back to one word rather than clipping.

It can help when attention will not settle

Some research suggests this presentation can help readers with ADHD in particular, while it may make comprehension harder for other readers. If your eyes skate over a paragraph several times without anything going in, it may be worth trying.

It is not speed reading

Understanding can become harder as the pace rises because you lose the backward glances that normal reading allows. That is why the verse stays visible below the word and why Scripture Leaf marks 150โ€“350 words per minute as the suggested range rather than treating speed as a goal.

Start at 300. Read a chapter you know before one you do not. Scripture is meant to be sat with. This is a way in, not a replacement.
